What is dewatering?

Dewatering is the process of removing groundwater from an excavation site to create dry working conditions before demolition or construction begins.

Dewatering removes groundwater and surface water from excavation sites to allow safe, dry working conditions. Common dewatering methods include:

  • Dewatering basins - temporary settling areas where pumped water is held briefly to allow sediment to settle before discharge
