What is a hydraulic breaker (hoe ram)?

A hydraulic breaker (hoe ram) is a pneumatic hammer attachment mounted to an excavator that uses repeated impact force to fracture and break concrete, rock, asphalt, and other hard materials during demolition work.

Attached to the boom or stick of an excavator, a hydraulic breaker operates by rapid piston strikes that impact the work surface thousands of times per minute. The tool converts the machine's hydraulic pressure into controlled pounding force, making it faster and more precise than manual jackhammering for large-scale material removal.

Hoe rams come in various sizes and strike strengths, selected based on the hardness and thickness of the target material.
